We are privileged to release the Apolis + Terrain Philadelphia Market Bag, exclusively sold at Terrain in Glen Mills, on the outskirts of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This is our 21st Local + Global project, connecting regional retailers with our global advocacy and helping to create consistent employment for artisans in rural Bangladesh. Philadelphia is a unique city in the northeast. While other cities are trying to compete with New York, Philly is happy to be its own, a sometimes buttoned-up, sometimes endearingly gritty city. However, these two contrasting characteristics are something Philadelphia residents appreciate about the city. Whether it is the quiet history of the Betsy Ross House and the Liberty Bell, or the rowdy Philadelphia Phillies fans who file into Citizens Bank Park outside the historic Navy Yard.

Terrain is located in the city in Glen Mills, PA, on the site of a 100-year-old family nursery once operated by Franklin J. Styer. According to Terrain's Marketing Manager, Cat King, it was important to the ownership to preserve the integrity and history of the 11-acre site. Much of the footprint of the historic nursery has remained the same, even as the new proprietors have made it their own. As much as Terrain is a retail space, it is also a place for community. Terrain hosts seasonal festivals and events that feature local partners, purveyors, and artisans, while encouraging customers to linger and enjoy a whole morning or afternoon wandering the gardens, greenhouses, Amish barn, spa, and cafe. One example of these local partnerships was a recent event Terrain hosted with Kinfolk Magazine that aimed to encourage collaboration between local artisans and small businesses. Also of note is the Terrain garden café, led by Chef Keith Rudolf, celebrates the cycle of the seasons and the bounty of the land. Using hand-selected local produce, meats, and dairy products, the restaurant takes pride in crafting menus from the seasonal harvest of farmers the owners know and trust. It is this strong connection to the local Philadelphia community that drew us to Terrain and we are proud to connect this innovative retailer with our artisans in Bangladesh through the Apolis + Terrain Philadelphia Market Bag.
