In Southern California there is no better way to celebrate the beginning of summer with friends than to enjoy good weather and the first south swells in Malibu. We met up with close friends Scott Soens and Will Adler at the Malibu Country Mart for a quick breakfast and pulled into the state park to haul our gear to the plot of sand we would call home for the day. Shea took on the 52 degree water like a champion, wearing only his trunks, to the confusion of the fully wetsuited lineup. Foley took Jason out for an inaugural attempt at surfing, while Raan & Scott grabbed a few waves on his hand shaped alaia and Will put us all to shame with his nose riding and polished style.
After a lunch of sandy sandwiches, courtesy of the the Malibu Kitchen at the Country Mart, we packed up and headed up to Leo Carrillo Beach, just south of the Ventura County Line, to catch a few light offshore rollers with some of the local loggers. We closed out the day with fish tacos and a few stories over Pacificos as the sun went down. Night had come to Malibu by the time our crew got on the road south, while Scott and Will both headed north to our old 805 stomping grounds.
We enjoyed the rewards of an eventful day, the summer field testing yielded raving reviews from both our co-workers and those who showed up. Despite fatigue, sunburns and minor wounds from the tideline rocks, we all emerged with bright summer smiles. If you’re beach bound soon grab a few of our hand picked and field tested Summer Bundles, just in time for Father’s Day, June 19.
