Event: Calligraphy Event at The Apolis Print Shop

Event: Calligraphy Event at The Apolis Print Shop

By Shea + Raan Parton

To celebrate our newest Valentine's Day Calligraphy Collection, we brought Shinah– the creative powerhouse behind Crooked Calligraphy and our sold-out Valentine's Day Calligraphy bags to design custom calligraphy in-person at our Print Shop in the Arts District Los Angeles.

--

This past Sunday, our friend Shinah Chang came to the Apolis Print Shop to design custom calligraphy on bags in person. We've worked with Shinah many times and we love her story.

Shinah did her undergrad at Harvard, proceeded on to law school at NYU, and became a corporate attorney — so far, probably not the career track you'd expect for a calligrapher. That's because, in her own words, "after one too many nights of sleeping under my desk," Shinah quit her job and began exploring avenues of creative expression, which eventually led to founding Crooked Calligraphy.

It's a pretty inspiring story, right? We love working with artists that embody the meaning behind our #ApolisGlobalCitizen movement who follow their heart to give something meaningful to this world. And we're particularly excited about collaborating with Shinah because each and every bag sold benefits the community of Saidpur, Bangladesh, where these bags are made. The female artisans at the co-op behind the bags receive wages above Fair Trade standards, along with job benefits, profit dividends, and a retirement fund. That means that not only are these bags durable, eco-friendly, and personalized but that they also tangibly help families and communities across the globe. This is one true global collaboartion and we loved sharing it with you.
