Update: Passed our goal in 3 hours! Thank you to everyone that supported Apolis’ Black Friday campaign this year.
While I was visiting Bangladesh a few months ago, I asked workers at Saidpur Enterprises (the co-op which makes our market bags) how we could help them. One thing I heard back was that they’d love to replace their manual sewing machines with electric machines, since electric machines are physically easier to use and help speed things up, increasing their overall comfort and productivity.
So for Black Friday this year, we are trying something new by giving $6,750 of all Apolis sales (Nov. 24) to the co-op in Bangladesh which produces our market bags, so that they could buy 30 electric sewing machines. We’re so excited for this initiative — thanks to supporters like you — and that the female artisans of Saidpur Enterprises will soon be able to replace their manual sewing machines with electric ones, making their workdays easier and more efficient, and setting them up for success in the long run.
We’re grateful for each and every person who has partnered with us in this effort by buying a Market Bag — not just on Black Friday, but all throughout the year. Every single market bag bought helps provide Fair Trade wages, job benefits, and retirement funds to the Bangladeshi moms who make these bags. We believe that business can be used to tangibly benefit global communities, and we’re honored to partner with people like you to use business to serve the community of Saidpur. We’re excited to see how the Bangladesh Project continues to impact the community of Saidpur in years to come as well — thanks so much for partnering with us!
Also, you can follow our Instagram today through Giving Tuesday (Nov. 28) to see the artisans of Saidpur personally showing their gratitude — these women have some pretty infectious smiles, and we’re so thankful we get to be a part of their story with you.
