We always love working with creative people who have taken an entrepreneurial approach to their art — and Shinah Chang is just such a person. Shinah did her undergrad at Harvard, proceeded on to law school at NYU, and became a corporate attorney — so far, probably not the career track you'd expect for an up-and-coming calligrapher. That's because, in her own words, "after one too many nights of sleeping under my desk," Shinah quit her job and began exploring avenues of creative expression, which eventually led to founding Crooked Calligraphy.
Shinah is passionate about the artform of calligraphy, so we're stoked to partner with her to release this exclusive tote featuring the text of your choice beautifully handwritten in permanent waterproof calligraphy. Not only does this make for a great bag, it makes for a great gift as well.
We're particularly excited about this collaboration because each and every bag sold benefits the community of Saidpur, Bangladesh, where these bags are made. The female artisans at the co-op behind the bags receive wages above Fair Trade standards, along with job benefits, profit dividends, and a retirement fund. That means that not only are these bags durable, eco-friendly, and personalized, but that they also tangibly help families and communities across the globe.
